Cancelling your visa is a straightforward process as long as you’re not bound by UAE laws to stay in the country for several reasons. Before cancelling your visa, you must do the following steps:

  • Clear all your utility bills and debts, and cancel your tenancy contracts.
  • Sell all your assets, including your houses, cars, and any other property.

Who Can Cancel UAE Visas?

It’s important to note that expats can’t cancel their visas. Only their sponsors can cancel their visas on their behalf. Anyhow, if the expats hold an Investor visa, then they can cancel their own visas as well.

Employers will need to clear the pending salary, gratuity, and leave salary entitlements and provide an aeroplane ticket before cancelling their work permit with MoHRE.

Documents Required For UAE Visa Cancellation

  • Emirates ID
  • Passport
  • Sponsor’s Passport Copy
  • Entry Permit Copy
  • Financial Liabilities Clearance Statement
  • In case of death,

How To Apply for UAE Visa Cancellation?

You can cancel your UAE visa through various methods. Let’s have a look at them.

1. Through the ICP Website or UAEICP App

Follow the steps below to get started.

  • Step 1: Visit the official ICP website.
  • Step 2: From the header, click on “Services for Individuals“.
  • Step 3: Select “Cancel Residency Permit” and click on “Start Service“.

  • Step 4: Now, select Visa File Number from Choose ID as shown in the figure below, enter your Visa File Number and Current Nationality, and click Search to proceed.

  • Step 5: Pay the required fee, and your application will be submitted.

2. Through the GDRFAD Website or App

You can also apply for the cancellation of your UAE Visa through the GDRFAD website or their official app.

  • Step 1: Visit the official GDRFAD website.
  • Step 2: Click on “Services” from the header section.
  • Step 3: Click on “Residency Services“.
  • Step 4: Now, click on “Cancellation of Residency Visa“.

3. Through Amer Service Centers (Offline)

In order to cancel your visa through Amer Services Centers, follow the steps below:

  • Step 1: Visit any nearby Amer Service Center.
  • Step 2: Select the Visa Cancellation Service at the receptionist.
  • Step 3: Provide him/her with the required documents.
  • Step 4: Pay the fee.

4. Through ICP’s Customer Happiness Centers (Offline)

You can also cancel your residency visa through Customer Happiness Centers.

  • Step 1: Visit any ICP’s Customer Happiness Center.
  • Step 2: Provide them with your required documents and ask them to cancel your residency visa.

The cost of canceling your visa depends upon the service you’re going to use. Normally, UAE Visa Cancellation costs around 50 AED to 100 AED with a 10 AED e-Service fee.

What is the Grace Period After Visa Cancellation in UAE?

Once your visa has been canceled, you should either leave the UAE or apply for the renewal of your residency visa within the grace period. The grace period you may get depends upon your visa type.

  • 180 Days
  • Green or Golden Visa Holders and their relatives
  • Divorcees or widows
  • 1st and 2nd level classified Job Holders from MoHRE.

How To Check UAE Visa Cancellation Status Online?

You can easily check your Visa Cancellation Status by going to the official ICP website.

  • Step 1: Visit the ICP Smart Services website.
  • Step 2: Click on “Public Visa Services” from the header section.
  • Step 3: Select “Cancellation of Current Visa“.
  • Step 4: Select “Passport Information” and enter your Passport No., Passport Type, Date of Birth, and Current Nationality.

Automatic Cancellation of UAE Visa

If any Expats leave UAE without cancelling their residency visa and remain outside UAE for more than 6 months, their UAE visa will be automatically cancelled. Anyhow, you’ll not be charged anything for it, but you’ll not be able to reenter UAE without adequately cancelling your UAE visa, and the only way to cancel your visa is with the help of your previous sponsor.

Anyhow, now those residents living outside the UAE for over 6 months can apply for a Re-Entry Permit for which they’ll be able to stay outside the UAE for over 6 months.

Cancellation and Extension of Unused Visit Visas

If you have a UAE Visit Visa and you can’t check in within the validity period in UAE, then you can extend your visit visa for an additional period of 60 days for 200 AED.

In case you have a visit visa and do not want to extend your visa, then you’ll need to cancel your visa by going to ICA’s Smart Services website. If not cancelled, you’ll not be able to apply for a new UAE visa in the future.

You can cancel your unused visit visa for anywhere between 160 AED to 300 AED.


Your UAE visa will be cancelled within 48 hours.

You must cancel your visa before leaving UAE. If you leave UAE without cancelling your visa, you won’t be able to enter UAE unless your visa is officially cancelled.

Visit the GDRFAD website and submit a request to cancel your visa. Submit your documents and pay the required fee, and you’ll receive a visa cancellation letter.
